Azariah Kebede

Program Coordinator

Azariah Mekonnen Kebede, born in Los Angeles and raised in both Los Angeles and Atlanta, was exposed to diverse underserved communities, which led him to study Public Policy at the University of Southern California. He wants to go to law school in the coming years to understand better and address the issues faced by those communities.

Azariah is drawn to the work that Community Lawyers, Inc. does because it directly assists underserved communities like the ones he grew up in. Community Lawyers, Inc. is demystifying the legal profession for the community at large and bridging the gap between the community and legal professionals.

He has demonstrated his commitment to supporting his community through services and representation, including advocacy, education, and policy-related activities. During his time with the USC Mock Trial team, he helped canvas and poll Los Angeles communities during local elections and host legal workshops. He also worked with the Department of Military and Veteran Affairs, assisting programs providing support for unhoused veterans, many of whom suffered from untreated trauma. He is passionate about working with children from underserved communities through his volunteer work with Reading to Kids and Utopia Math Academy, where he tutors and mentors those children.

Having experienced life in underserved communities, Azariah is passionate about addressing that lack. As a prospective law student, he is prioritizing how a law degree can help him achieve that goal, whether in the courtroom or through external activities and programs that his education will give him access to.
